FOLEGANDROS WORTH SEEING KASTRO

KASTRO
The medieval settlement of Kastro is the old part of Hora, built on the verge of a steep cliff, 210 m. above the sea. "Kastro" in Greek means "fortress". However, this is not a fortress as such, but a defensive configuration of houses that used to protect the inhabitants from enemy raids. As years went by and the threat of raids wore off, the settlement started to develop outside the enclosed area of Kastro, which has been inhabited without interruption since its establishment.

Today, the medieval settlement of Kastro is protected by the Ministry of Culture and the Greek Archaeological Society.
